The Chart — “A Summary Chart of Types” (Part 1 of 2)

Summary Chart of Types(Click to Enlarge)

Brother Houteff  said, “Thus every true follower of Christ is inspired in his own lot– one to interpret, another to study, still another to teach, and yet still another to discern, and all to act and to sacrifice for His sake.” (Sym. Code, vol. 8, no.1-12, p.5). This effort, we pray, is a combination of discernment and study. The sole purpose of this study is to understand it anew and to provide some serious thought that the chart may indeed inspire us with all its God-given truth.

We would like to discuss this chart that brother Houteff placed in the very first work   “The Shepherd’s Rod,  Volume 1”  in December of 1930.  You’ll need to click it frequently to enlarge as we point out certain aspects on the chart.

A while back we wrote about the long running controversy about the “Special Resurrection” within Davidia and the SDA as well. After many hours of study, and with prayer, we were able to see the potential of the writings of Scripture , Ellen White, and Victor Houteff all complementing   and supporting each other. That report can be found under the category  “The Special Resurrection”.

That issue has long been looked at as “Brother Houteff not having enough light on the subject”, therefore errors(as to time placement) were allowed to be written. However, that study showed that instead of error written by brother Houteff, God’s beautiful truths were clear in all it’s glory, complimenting each other, much as a team works together to bring home the victory.

Because many of us neglected to see the possibility that both Ellen White and Victor Houteff wrote truth concerning the special resurrection, we  chose to say  one or both of them had written  an  incorrect report of the actual event (as to timing and placement of it). The contemporary  SDA view says that brother Houteff’s view was error, the Davidians say EGW’s view was error.

Could it be that we as Davidians have also failed to look deeply into this Summary Chart, much as we have done on the Special Res. understanding? We can only provide food for thought and let each in their closet of prayer ask the Lord for divine light in this regard.

Recently we re-read the SROD vol. 1 book and came across this Summary chart and frankly we were, well let’s say–stumped and bewildered! At once we could see that either there appeared obvious errors or we just didn’t understand it enough.

There can be 2 assumptions made in understanding this chart. 1) The most popular one today by us as Davidians,  is that brother Houteff did not have the light at this time to clearly explain the future events. We cannot discard this view completely because he indeed received light as he advanced in his walk. 2) However, as we shall show there is a real possibility that when he drew this he was indeed under inspiration and it is in harmony with God’s actual prophetic timeline.  All we can do is “wait and see” which assumption shall prove correct. We do not judge all those who see the 1st assumption as correct.

Let us now begin to analyze this profound and deep chart.

“This chart (page 224), being the summary of the message this publication bears, should be able to tell whether it proves correct or not. If it’s contents prove  100% true, we must accept it as God’s truth.” (SRod, vol. 1, p.232)

What we will do is bring up the specific areas that appear controversial or suspect to some viewers. The other parts we will leave untouched as brother Houteff explains them in all their beautiful detail in the SRod book (p.223-235)

Brother Houteff said the following, “Our duty is to prove God’s Word correct rather than to hold tenaciously to our preconceptions and misconceptions until God Himself steps in and puts us to shame.” (TG, vol. 1, no.11, p.6)

Let us start with the  list of the areas we will be discussing.

1) What does the “Tares and Wheat period”  (curved) statement mean located in period 1 and 2 in the anti-typical period?

2) What does the “Harvest” (curved) statement mean in the 3 rd period?

3) What does the “Second Exodus” statement mean atop the line between the 2nd and 3rd period?

4) What is the purpose of the 1844 line and the 1931 line?

5) In the 3rd period, what is the reason for the mention of “Loud Cry” and “Rev.18:1” ?

6) What did brother Houteff mean by the statement, “Though the duration of this last section  of probationary time (entitled Israel), is shorter than any of the periods before it, it is the most glorious time of God’s church.” ?

7) What did brother Houteff mean by the statement, “Israel the true (the 144,000) are sealed at the close of the fifth section. ?

We will address each of the above points one by one. Then we’ll add some other observations. Then we’ll add a brief end-time scenario that appears supported by the above chart.

We notice that the heading starts at the cross and extends to the 1931 line. Our  human wisdom would say that we would think it means that this period was the co-mingling. Additionally,  because it ends at the 1931 line, we should  conclude that the co-mingling was to be over at that point. How wrong we are! If we are to believe that VTH mistakenly predicted by this heading that the co-mingling was to end in 1931, then we must  believe that the whole chart is incorrect.

Our King said, “”For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 55:8)

So instead of seeing this co-mingling period as ending in 1931, we must conclude that it means something different. What else could it be but that it shows the dominant characteristic of that church period. Inspiration appears to point out what the number one trait of the church was during this time. This makes the heading truthful and understood. Obviously 1931 did not close the period of co-mingling and must be discarded as our understanding here.

So inspiration shows that the great distinction of that period was the co-mingling time of the wheat and the tares. This does not preclude the obvious fact that the co-mingling still exists after 1931. Rather, from 1931 and after, there appears a new dominant characteristic of the church–the Harvest period.

We see that the harvest heading comes in the 3rd section, post resurrection. Again we could see through dimly lit light and falsely assume that the harvest literally began, or was supposed to, in 1931. However inspiration obviously cannot be telling us that. It must mean something else. Did not the beginning phase of the final harvest begin with the Shepherd’s Rod book? In other words, the knowledge of the final harvest was then first revealed and the beginning plans setup, preparing us for the harvest. The beginning truth of the first fruits and great multitude came to us in all it’s blazing glory in 1931!

It could be likened to the farmer getting into his barn to set up and prepare his tractor  and the tools, to get ready to do the actual harvest. This could take some time of preparation. This would be the real beginning process of the harvest, not  necessarily  the actual work of the harvest. So too, 1931 gave us the beginning preparation work of the harvest, and the plans began setting up.

Let’s show an example of “setting up” something by God’s way. In (Jeremiah 1:9-10) we read, “Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: ‘Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms…”

In the above verses, we see that the LORD was speaking to a young boy, Jeremiah, and that even as he was still a very young  boy, the Lord  “this day” had “set you over” the nations and kingdoms. Was he literally set up that day? No. He was being prepared, but to God’s view it was already established! We know later that the literal prophesied word’s had the direct fulfilling application, because he spoke God’s words to kings, leaders and his countrymen and as such was set “over nations and kingdoms”.

“For forty years Jeremiah was to stand before the nation as a witness for truth and righteousness. In a time of unparalleled apostasy he was to exemplify in life and character the worship of the only true God. During the terrible sieges of Jerusalem he was to be the mouthpiece of Jehovah. He was to predict the downfall of the house of David and the destruction of the beautiful temple built by Solomon.” (Prophets and Kings, p.408)

So the harvest did indeed begin in 1931,and was/is  the predominant characteristic of the 3rd period covering both the first fruits and the second fruits. Praise the Lord! Did it start in 1931? And will it be the most dominant characteristic of this church period? Yes indeed, God’s way.

Again we see this located at the time of the 1931 line.  Just as the harvest began in a spiritual way, so too  this exodus began. It started as well with the first Shepherd’s Rod book in 1931. Although the book was published in December of 1930, inspiration indicates that the spreading of it began officially in 1931.

So how does this exodus start in 1931? The Srod book begins to teach the people of reformation and revival, to spiritually exit (“exodus”) their serving Baal, and come out of the sins so vastly prevalent in the church. We remember that just as the harvest began first with a spiritual harvest, so too the exodus must begin spiritually. Then a few years later the true people of God, the Davidians, were led to a “beginning exodus” from the SDA church to the Mt. Carmel DSDA church. The path east ward had begun with this exodus. Lastly, as we know, the main literal application in this exodus in the 3rd section happens shortly before the seven last plagues section, a massive literal exodus to the kingdom.

We can note that the position of the exodus heading can only appear here because it would make no sense to appear over the seven last plagues section. Inspiration placed it just where it belonged.

1844 and 1931  LINE

As Adventists we know that the SDA church had its very beginnings in 1844, and it was also the fulfillment of the 2300 days prophecy.  So  this date line is quite well-known and self-explanatory. But the 1931 line was quite significant in the LORD’s plans, as we Davidians know.  It was the spiritual beginning  of the harvest and the exodus. Additionally as brother Houteff shows , it’s the “Jacob” period, the 2nd period.

But something more deep, we believe may be found here. As we are  trying to prove God’s word’s correct as brother Houteff instructed us, we can consider  that the time difference of 87 years means something.

As Ellen White said, “But no man however honored of Heaven, has ever attained to a full understanding of the great plan of redemption, or even a perfect appreciation of the divine purpose in the work for his own time. Men do not fully understand what God would accomplish by the work which He gives them to do; they do not comprehend, in all it’s bearings, the message which they utter in His name.” ( Great Controversy, p.343)

It may be a real possibility that VTH placed those specific dates there divinely  to help us discern end time events to come as we will review later in part two.

LOUD CRY / REV. 18:1

Once again we can see how the release of the Lord’s Shepherd’s Rod book in 1931 was the beginning of the Loud Cry in the spiritual sense. We should understand that the Lord see things happening first with His word of the Rod, followed by the literal application later. Our human wisdom could look at this period 3 and say, “Well the Loud Cry didn’t start in that period after 1931, so the chart must be incorrect.” That is exactly what Satan wants! Doubt and distrust in His prophet. It’s the age-old ploy to doubt the message because there are a few difficult things we can’t grapple around with our finite minds.

In Revelation 18:1, we as Davidians know that this angel is the “Eleventh hour movement”. Brother Houteff said, “This Movement, however, being the last gospel effort, must “give power and force” to the Third Angel’s Message and “lighten the earth with his glory” (Rev. 18:1); it must triumph, though every Movement before it has failed. It is destined, not to “prophesy again” to “many nations” (Rev. 10:11), but to “all.” And as it is to go to those who have not heard of His fame, and to bring to the house of the Lord all the saints “out of all nations” (Isa. 66:19, 20), it is consequently foreordained to endure.” (The Answerer, vol. 1, p.67)

Additionally we find that the Isaiah 62:2 will met its fulfillment after 1931 and  in the Israel period. As the Lord will name His people by a new name.

So VTH’s placing the Rev.18:1 in the 3rd time period from 1931 to the seven last plaques is placed there  correctly. Although the “Eleventh Hour” begins in 1931, it picks up speed and force as it nears  the end of the 3rd period. Miracles, signs and wonders take place right before the probation door closes of period 3.

Next post we’ll look at the very difficult statements, numbers 6 and 7.
